Applications

The second call for ChIRS student applications for the 2026–2028 edition is now open.

ChIRS — the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Chemical Innovation and Regulation for Sustainability — welcomes applications from candidates with a strong chemistry background and a clear interest in contributing to a safer and more sustainable future.

Applications must be submitted through the ChIRS admissions page:

https://www.emmcchir.org/admissions/apply

The deadline for applications is July 15, 2026.

Who should apply?

ChIRS is designed for students who want to work at the interface of chemical science, chemical regulation, innovation and sustainability.

The programme is particularly suitable for candidates with a background in chemistry or closely related fields, and with an interest in how chemical substances, materials and products can be designed, assessed, regulated and managed responsibly.

Candidates should be motivated to engage with current challenges in chemical safety, sustainability, regulatory science and the European Safe and Sustainable by Design — SSbD approach.

Starting in October 2026

Classes for the 2026–2028 edition will start in October 2026.

For the academic year 2026/2027, the Host University will be the University of Algarve, Portugal. Students will begin the programme in an international academic environment, with teaching and learning activities connected to the wider ChIRS consortium and its joint master structure. During the second year students will pursue an internship, a research project and Master thesis in another ChIRS partner in a different country.

Funding for top-ranked candidates

Funding from the ChIRS Consortium will be available for top-ranked candidates.

Candidates should read the admissions and application instructions carefully to understand the conditions, requirements and selection process. Funding is competitive and linked to the ranking of candidates.
