Admission Requirements

The Master's degree is designed to provide additional education or training in the student's specialized branch of knowledge. The minimum requirements for admission to the Masters are:

  • 1) Strong Academic Background in Chemistry

    Candidates must hold a high education diploma issued by a competent High Education authority attesting the completion of a degree equivalent to a 1st cycle (180 ECTS). This may be a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Clinical Analysis, Medicine, etc.
    A good background in Chemistry is required to fully apprehend the ChIRS course materials, so candidates must have already acquired the equivalent to a minimum of 25 ECTS credits in the field of Chemistry.

  • 2) Demonstrated command of English language

    English is the language used in ChIRS classes and assessments. Candidates must prove they can understand, speak and write English proficiently enough to understand the subjects and produce assignments.

    A self-test of English proficiency is included in the online application form. A minimum classification of B2 is required in all fields of reading, writing, hearing and speaking proficiency.

  • 3) Adequate financial resources

    You should be fully aware of the financial costs of the programme. These include the tuition fees and the costs of living and studying in the city of the Host University, i.e. accommodation, transportation and food.
    If you are applying from outside the European Union you must take into account the costs of traveling to Europe and back home. Depending on your nationality, you may need to obtain a passport student visa, with costs depending on the country you are applying from.If your application is accepted, you will be required to provide a Guarantee of full financial support for the duration of the studies. The University needs to know that you have sufficient funds to cover the entire period of study. This document must be signed by whomever is meeting your university expenses. It may also have to be certified by a bank or lawyer. Keep a copy of this form since you may also need it to apply for your student visa.
    Please note that the university will issue the relevant certificate of eligibility for a passport student visa only if you are able to document fully your source(s) of income.

Selection Process

The evaluation of candidates is made by a Selection Committee composed of representatives from each of the partner universities in the ChIRS Consortium.

All eligible candidates are evaluated and ranked according to the following criteria:

  • A. Quality of previous qualifications

    Evaluates the academic curriculum of the candidate: previous degrees, post-graduate courses, specialization courses, scientific publications.

  • B. Proficiency in languages of the consortium

    English proficiency is evaluated. Knowledge of other european languages of the consortium (Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Polish) is also valued in this criterium.

  • C. Motivation and Potential

    This criterium measures the benefit to the candidate from the master programme.

  • D. Suitability

    This values the match between the candidate’s profile and the Master. Appropriate professional experience is evaluated.

  • E. Recommendations

    Based on the confidential evaluation of the candidate by two referees.
